HANDCARVED LINOLEUM PRINTS

I am a Cambridge based artists creating hand printed limited edition prints from hand carved linoleum blocks. 

Ever since I can remember I have been drawing, painting and making. Apart from the time spent with my family and pets, it is a time when I feel the happiest, when I'm being creative.

My work is inspired by my native countryside, the wild flowers and the fauna. Whilst I'm out walking the dog, I daydream a lot. I like to mix those influences with some folklore, mythology, literature and music. My work comes from my unique interpretation of what I see and imagine.

Daydreaming and imagination are so important and I believe that art is a way of communicating that collective consciousness. My art is an appreciation and respect for nature, a sense of fun, a child’s eye view of the world, with a little black humour, mystery, magic and surrealism thrown in for good measure.

ART BACKGROUND

I have had a very varied art background, printmaking, animation and letter carving in stone.I started off creating etchings at college, which I loved. I really enjoy the many stages of the printmaking process, the designing, the drawing, the carving of the block and the printing. I love the magic of the peel and reveal, seeing the first print off the block. Printmaking is not always plain sailing, the variables that occur during the printmaking process can be frustrating. I have re-carved blocks and had to emit quite a few prints to make an edition. Getting it right is really important to me, however I hope the fun I have when making my prints comes across in the final piece of work.
